The Citizen watches with Eco-Drive are mainly powered by sunlight but have also a titanium lithium-ion battery which is always charged by an silicon solar cell integrated in the clock face.The power reserve, the time the clock works without sunlight, is about 6 months to 8,7 years. The watches which have a power reserve of 8,7 years have a special meccanism that stops the watch hands but the movement keeps track of time. The watch hands move to the proper position and resume regular timekeeping when the watch is exposed to some light. Citizen says that the battery has a capacity of 80 % after 20 years.
